Casper Municipal Court


The Casper Municipal Court in conjunction with the City of Casper is closely monitoring the outbreak of the Coronavirus COVID-19.  

The Court will be implementing social distancing, and all individuals must maintain a 6-foot distance. Defendants appearing for Court will check in on the first floor, and only Defendants, their attorneys, and subpoenaed witnesses will be allowed into the Courtroom to ensure compliance with social distancing. The Court is encouraging hand sanitizing, hand washing, restraint from touching the face, and use of face coverings. Appropriate spacing designations for line formation for the Court window will be designated by floor decals, and the Court asks that individuals do not form a line down the hallway. Additionally, the 5th floor of the Hall of Justice is a shared space between Child Support Enforcement, Youth Diversion and the Casper Municipal Court and these entities request the public’s assistance in limiting the amount of people gathering in the lobby.

Anyone that has been exposed (in close contact) to anyone who has tested positive for COVID-19 or someone identified as “probable” for COVID-19, anyone asked to self-quarantine by any physician, hospital, or healthcare agency, anyone diagnosed with COVID-19 or found to be probable for COVID-19 or anyone currently experiencing or exhibiting the symptoms of COVID-19 including a cough, shortness of breath, sore throat, headache, chills, muscle pain and/or a new loss of taste or smell is encouraged to contact the Municipal Court at 307-235-8267 to discuss your situation so that your hearing can be continued or modified to a digital setting.

The Court window will only open to the general public for payments between 8:00 am and 12:00 pm daily. High risk individuals can come to the Court window between 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm daily. The Court will not accept payments at the Court window after 3pm daily to ensure proper sanitization.

High risk groups include but are not limited to: People 65 years and older, people who live in a nursing home or long-term care facility, people of all ages with underlying medical conditions, particularly if not well controlled including: people with chronic lung disease or moderate to severe asthma, people who have serious heart conditions, people who are immunocompromised, people with sever obesity, people with diabetes, people with chronic kidney disease undergoing dialysis, people with liver disease.

Responsibilities

Municipal Court administers the operation of the judicial branch of the City of Casper Government according to ordinances adopted by the City Council.

Cases adjudicated in Municipal Court include misdemeanor crimes under City Code and those State Statutes which are incorporated into the City Code, occurring within the jurisdictional limits of the City of Casper.
